Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, has made an emotional plea to reconcile with his daughter and meet his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet. In a heartfelt message, Thomas, who is estranged from Meghan, publicly expressed his desire to reconnect. As he approaches his 80th birthday, he implored the Duchess of Sussex to allow him to see his grandkids. This attempt at reconciliation comes amid ongoing tension between father and daughter, following Meghan’s candid interview about her strained relationship with her family.
Thomas Markle’s longing to hear from his daughter: “I’ve never been one for birthdays, but the person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch,” Thomas shared with the Daily Mail.
Mr Markle said: “They are getting to the age where they will start asking questions, as all kids do.
“At some stage it’s inevitable that they will ask their parents why they have cut them off from both sides of the family?
“They have two grandpas who want to see them, one of whom is the King of England. I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the King” reports MailOnline.
Despite being initially invited to walk Meghan down the aisle at her 2018 royal wedding, health issues prevented him from attending. He later admitted to collaborating with a photographer for staged paparazzi photos, opting not to attend the wedding to avoid embarrassing the royal family.
Thomas added, “I would love to meet my grandchildren, but even a photograph would make me happy at this stage.” The 80-year-old has yet to meet Archie and Lilibet. Reflecting on his life, he acknowledged that recent events have overshadowed his accomplishments. Thomas, who never expected to reach 80, expressed regret that he won’t meet Harry or hear from him, saying, “I wish we could have resolved this situation. I was always ready and willing.”
Why is Meghan’s relationship with her father strained? Meghan’s last conversation with her father reportedly occurred before her wedding, when he was hospitalized. Their communication ceased after Thomas became embroiled in a paparazzi controversy. At the wedding, Meghan’s mother was the sole attendee from her side.
